Media Meditation #2: MacGruber/MacGuyver

This past weekend I watched the movie MacGruber which I found to be rather entertaining. It stars Will Forte and Kristen Wiig and is a commentary on how cliche movies are these days...by being cliche itself.

One of my favorite things from the film is the antagonist; Dieter Von Cunth (played by Val Kilmer), MacGruber's catchphrase is "It's time to pound some Cunth" - hopefully I won't have to explain this too much!

Media Meditation #1: Stumbling around the intenet...

This is a really awesome video. To me it also represented how our world is now connected through the internet.

If you decided not to watch the video or are just looking for a summary, it is basically a documentary filmmaker (or many, check Playing for Change) who travels the world and has different street performers sing the same song (this one is "Stand By Me"). It is a really incredible piece of work and further shows what we can accomplish through the internet.

This video really inspired me to thinking about what I can do as a filmmaker, it is such a simple idea but has been executed so effectively that the featured musicians now travel on tour performing all over the world. All we need is an idea and something to capture it on, thanks to the internet we now have the distribution method.

I would love to one day try my hand at a project like this but it takes extreme dedication and people willing to help you out but once you have these things it can prove to be very rewarding. This group: "Playing for Change" now tour the world and raise money for charities.

Here is a photograph I took at the beginning of the summer using a timed exposure in a dark room and a lighter.

Cinematography Final Music Video from Jack Nichols on Vimeo.

This music was not created by me in any way, I just filmed/edited the video.

About Me

Hi, my name is Jack.

1. Where are you from? State or province, and town?

I was born in England and lived there for 12 years, then I moved to Massachusetts for two years, then back to England for another two years and finally back to Mass again where I have been for six years now.

2. Describe a fun media experience you had during your summer vacation. BE SPECIFIC.

This summer I saw a Santana concert with my family for my birthday, it was great seeing him live and he still knows how to rock! I also enjoyed the movie Inception.

3. Describe one thing you LIKE about our 21st century media culture, and one thing you DON'T LIKE about our 21st century media culture. BE SPECIFIC!

I really like how easy it is for everyone to share their work and collaborate much easier, I don't however like the amount of ads we are subjected to on a daily basis.

4. What vision do you have for your future, professionally?

Eventually I want to move into the digital film field and also photography and graphic design.
